Finland Luxury Travel: A Sample Itinerary

Days 1 - 3

Helsinki, "The white city of the north", is the perfect place to start your multi-stop journey through Finland. Fulled to the brim with art, history, architecture and a modern attitude that is felt with ease, this capital city is about more than just its famed granite buildings.

Begin your Finnish adventure in central Helsinki; just by wandering around the centre of the city one feels the difference to other European capitals. Perhaps it is the modernist, functionalist architecture mixed with the largest collection of Art Nouveau buildings in Northern Europe that feels unique - or the Scandinavian high quality of life that seems to resonate through the city's proximity to nature, and the communities that live here.

On your first day, explore the city from the ground, with Senate Square offering a grand introduction, with the striking neoclassical framework of Helsinki Cathedral bordering its edges and pastelades that open onto the lively Esplanadi Park - perfect for a harbour-side stroll. Day 2 invites you to deep dive into Finnish creativity with your private guide: explore the Design Museum, the Oodi Library, and the awe-inspiring Temppeliaukio Rock Church, built directly into rock. To some, having pockets of relaxation are a must-have in any itinerary, so on the third day Conte invites you to enjoy Helsinki at a slower pace. Cross a footbridge to Seurasaari, an open-air museum of historic Finnish buildings nestled in nature. End the day at Löyly, a contemporary waterfront sauna, where a dip in the Baltic is accompanied by a brilliant meal - this particular spot being both a sauna and restaurant in one!

Days 4 - 7

In riverside Porvoo, lakeside Jyväskylä, and the still waters of Lakeland, your journey continues at a restful pace, enjoying the route that many Finns take to reconnect with nature throughout their year. This section of your journey will reveal a Finland of guided hikes, smoke sauna experiences and medieval riverside towns ready to be encountered.

Start Day 4 by mingling with locals at Hakaniemi Market Hall - often called Helsinki's most authentic market stall and open since 1914 - in particular be sure to sample some local rye breads, cheeses and meats, Karelian pies, Laskiaispulla, and crispy blinis, before one last walk along the water in the capital.

Then it's a quick 1 hour drive off to Porvoo, the second oldest town in Finland, and an artistic and cultural hub. Known for its Old Wooden Town, narrow streets, painted red-ochre riverside warehouses - it could truly be described as a postcard come to life. Spend the day here exploring the artistic institutions, tempting food spots (as it is also known for having innovative and comofrting cuisine) and aestheitcs of the town before your travel continues the following day. Next, travel inland to Jyväskylä, a peaceful university town rich in Alvar Aalto’s architectural legacy. Partly known for its mixture of UNESCO heritage sites and urban atmsophere, this city is perfect to visit and often has exciting events, like the City of Lights, on at different points of the year. Your final day in Lakeland brings you to its famed natural landscape, where pristine lakes, forests, and relaxation take precedence. Spend the day canoeing, relaxing in a smoke sauna, or just breathing in the stillness near Kuopio before continuing your journey to Lapland.

Days 8 - 12

A next step into nature's best -  Lapland’s snow-covered forests, Koli's high views - these final days carry the quiet magic of the north of Finland, perfect for taking a moment to reflect and indulge whilst surrounded by the unbelievable.

After finishing in Lakeland, full of tranquility and perhaps a longing for more of Finland's incredible views, the final leg of your journey takes you upwards towards Lapland. The northern leg of your trip begins in Koli National Park, on the edge of Lake Pielinen, a small but uniquely protected area of land that also happens to be home to Finland's oldest (2.6 billion years ago) and most beloved hills and vistas.

After hiking the national park trails, head further north to Rovaniemi, the official gateway to Lapland and home to the Santa Claus Village - a whimsical experience complete with reindeer and the Arctic Circle, perfect for any luxury family holiday to Finland. The wild continues on Day 10 with a choice of husky or reindeer safaris, or hiking through Lapland’s boreal forests - the beauty of being somewhere so remote and unique is that everything feels customised to you, and your time can be spent exactly as you wish. Spend the next day in Pyhä or Levi, ski resort towns transformed in summer into sanctuaries for a final touch of northern relaxation before your final day takes you back to Helsinki, where dinner along the harbour closes the chapter on your luxury holiday to Finland.
